Neuromodulator Injections: Reduce Wrinkles

A neuromodulator is a protein that prevents the movement of muscles; it can be used with great precision and in tiny quantities to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles in the face and neck. When we think about wrinkles, we define them as dynamic and static. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle movement, and static lines are caused by aging, gravity, loss of collagen, loss of elastin, and loss of mass. Neuromodulators treat dynamic wrinkles. Interestingly, neuromodulator injections can also be used to treat migraines and excessive sweating.

During the treatment of neuromodulators, the tiny injections are targeted to smooth out lines and wrinkles. In general, it takes 2-7 days to start taking effect; we recommend giving it 2 weeks to see the results. It is not permanent and, on average, lasts 3-4 months, but it may last 2-6 months. There is also new clinical data emerging showing that starting early has a preventative effect on developing wrinkles and also new data showing that using higher dosages results in longer duration of results. Neuromodulators have been approved in the U.S. for nearly 20 years to be a safe and effective cosmetic and medical treatment.

CURRENTLY, THERE ARE FOUR DIFFERENT TYPES OF NEUROMODULATORS THAT WE USE. THEY ARE BOTOX, DYSPORT, XEOMIN, AND JEUVEAU.

They are all really amazing! Ultimately, when you come to Meridian Medical Spa, you can decide with your injector which one is best for you and which one you prefer.
In general, 2-7 days, but some people have noticed early activation. In general, we recommend giving any of the neuromodulators 2 weeks to really start working.
The discomfort is pretty minimal for most, 1/10 on a pain scale. We use the tiniest most comfortable needle along with advanced techniques to limit any discomfort. We can also use ice and numbing cream, if needed.
Bruising and bleeding are the most common side effects. To reduce the risk, we recommend avoiding alcohol a few days before and after. If you are on a blood thinner, including Aspirin, please discuss with your injector. Taking Arnica and or Bromelain a few days prior and after injections may also help reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding.Headaches can also occur with neuromodulator injections, but are pretty rare.
Getting neuromodulator injections 4 weeks before a big event should give you plenty of time to make sure you get the results you are looking for.
This depends on your unique anatomy and how deep the lines are and how big the muscle is that you want to be treated. For this reason, the amount needed varies from person to person. Seeing the same injector will allow your injector to see how your anatomy responds to the neuromodulator injection and determine exactly how many units are needed to achieve your goal. For some people, the goal is to soften the appearance of the lines and allow for movement while other people prefer to try to get rid of the lines and wrinkles as much as possible. It is really important to discuss your goals with your injector.
Sometimes this just means that you need a bigger dose or more units to get the effect that you want. More units can always be added. Another consideration is whether or not the lines are dynamic or static. We always recommend taking a before and after selfie and we take before and after photos to for evaluation. The best thing to is to follow up with your injector for further evaluation.

Injectables: Filler Treatments

Fillers are naturally occurring substances that can be injected to restore, create, contour, and enhance volume. As we age, we lose volume in the form of bone, fat, muscle, and collagen. This results in loss of structure and support in the face, which also causes us to look older and more tired. Common areas that lose volume include the cheeks, temples, and lips. Simply restoring this volume loss with filler can recreate a more youthful appearance. In addition, filler can be used to create contour in the cheek bone and jaw to further enhance your appearance. Lip filler can be used to enhance the shape and volume of the lips.

We primarily use hyaluronic acid fillers, which is a substance found naturally in the body. These fillers are not permanent and can easily be dissolved with an enzyme. In general, they last anywhere from 6-24 months. The longevity of filler depends on where it is injected and your metabolism as well as other factors, such as heat, sun exposure, and dehydration.

This depends on the area that is being injected, your age, the amount of volume you are looking to restore or create, your unique anatomy and your overall goal. Our injectors will work with you to be sure that you are happy with your results. More filler can always be added at anytime, so you can take it step by step.
Filler is charged by a syringe, one syringe ranges from $600-$700 depending on the filler. We also run specials and there are loyalty programs with Aspire and Brilliant Distinctions that further reduce the cost.
The most common side effects include bleeding and bruising. Things you can do to reduce this include avoid alcohol a few days before and after. Some medications, such as Aspirin, NSAIDS like Ibuprofen and Advil, fatty acids, vitamin E, and blood thinners can increase the risk of bruising and bleeding. Please review your medications with your injector, prior to your appointment, if you have questions or concerns of bruising and bleeding.
