The Economist reports that every year there are approximately 14 million non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed globally. A majority of these are injectables that can help reduce signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines.
Although Botox dominated the injectable market for many years, more people are now also choosing Jeuveau, also known as Newtox.
What Is Jeuveau?
Jeuveau is a cosmetic injectable made of purified botulinum toxin type A that can temporarily paralyze the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles. It does this by disrupting the nerve signals the brain sends to the muscles.
Dynamic wrinkles are those that expressions create, and they can include:
- Crow’s feet
- Smile lines
- Frown lines
- Forehead lines
Although Jeuveau works similarly to Botox, the two aren’t exactly the same. Jeuveau uses a slightly different form of the botulinum toxin. While Botox uses onabotulinumtoxinA, Jeuveau uses prabotulinumtoxinA. They are both safe options for treating dynamic wrinkles.
Jeuveau works best for glabellar lines, which are the vertical lines that form between your eyebrows. It also works well for preventing wrinkles and lines from forming, so younger patients are opting for it.
Candidates for Jeuveau
The perfect candidates for our Jeuveau injection treatments are those who are in general good health and want to reduce the signs of aging, like glabellar lines, that dynamic wrinkles can cause.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have an allergy to any components of Jeuveau, or have certain medical conditions, we will look for other treatment options that can help you achieve the results you want.
Benefits of Jeuveau
Jeuveau tends to be more affordable than other injectables, making it a good choice for someone who wants to try injectables for the first time. It is also better suited to treat glabellar lines than Botox.
It is an interchangeable option for Botox or Dysport injectables as well, which gives you maximum flexibility in your treatment options.
Jeuveau can offer better results on crow’s feet than Botox and is a preventative treatment, teaching muscles to be in a more relaxed state and reducing the potential for additional facial lines.
As with other injectables, you can start and stop using them whenever you like.
Before Your Jeuveau Injection
To prepare for your Jeuveau injection, you have to schedule an appointment with us so that we can assess the areas you would like treated. We will take a full medical history, as well, and ask you about any other cosmetic procedures you may have undergone. You should also tell us about the medications you take.
During this consultation, we will discuss how many injections you will need and what results you can expect from them.
We recommend you do not drink wine up to a week before your Jeuveau injection appointment. You also do not want to take anti-inflammatory medication the week before. Since garlic has anti-inflammatory properties, you may want to avoid eating it the day before the injections.
If you smoke, we encourage you to stop using any nicotine products at least two days before your appointment.
Because we recommend that you do not exercise for a while after the injections, you may want to get your workout in a day early.
What to Expect from the Procedure
Come to your Jeuveau appointment with a clean face. Do not wear makeup and do not use lotions, creams, or any other substances beforehand.
We will review your treatment plan to make sure that you approve, and then we will clean your face with an antiseptic. We will proceed to inject Jeuveau.
The entire process takes around 20 minutes, and afterward, you can return to your day without worrying about downtime.
Jeuveau Aftercare
Although there is no downtime, you want to avoid rubbing, scratching, or massaging the injection sites. This can displace the solution. For this same reason and to avoid raising your blood pressure, you want to wait at least a day before exercising.
You also want to wait a day before applying makeup, and make sure to only use a gentle facial cleanser for a day or two after the injections. Don’t schedule other cosmetic procedures like skin tightening or laser treatments for at least a week, and don’t take hot baths or go to saunas for a few days.
Some people choose to use ice packs or cold compresses after their appointments.
To help maintain the results you get from Jeuveau, it’s best to schedule a regular treatment plan. This will allow you to train your muscles to be softer and prevent rebound wrinkles. You should wait at least three months between sessions.
The results of Jeuveau injections can appear almost immediately for some people, with the full effects becoming apparent in about a week.
You can also help prevent wrinkles by staying out of the sun. Sunlight breaks down elastin and collagen, which are essential proteins that keep your skin looking youthful, so wear sunscreen every day, even if it’s cloudy.
Decrease the Appearance of Wrinkles with Jeuveau
If you want to get rid of dynamic wrinkles like smile lines and crow’s feet in a safe and effective manner, a Jeuveau injection might be the right choice for you. By relaxing your muscles, the injections can make your skin appear smoother and more youthful overall.
